✓ Purpose of the scheme

The main objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance for construction of houses to the homeless/shack families living below the poverty line in rural areas. The selection of beneficiaries is done by the Gram Panchayat. The permanent waiting list prepared by the Gram Panchayat is published on the notice board of the Gram Panchayat.

• The beneficiary should be below the poverty line.
• His name must be on the permanent waiting list.
• There should be a separate space for the construction of the house.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin,  a centrally sponsored scheme, has been implemented since 2016-17  .

✓ Financial assistance

• For General Area:  Rs. 1.20 lakh  per beneficiary
• For Naxal affected areas:  Rs. 1.30 lakh  per beneficiary
• The grant   will be credited to the beneficiaries’ bank/post account through the PFMS system .

✓ Selection process

 This scheme uses information from  the Social , Economic and Caste Survey 2011 for selecting beneficiaries  . Also, a National Technical Assistance Agency  has been set up to provide technical assistance at the national level.

✓ Additional support

In addition to the housing subsidy,   additional financial assistance is provided in the form of 90/95 days of unskilled labor  under  the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme ( MGNREGA) .
